If you are unhappy with the way your ears look for aesthetic reasons, you may like to consider minor earlobe surgery performed by Dr Scott Horsburgh in Annerley, Brisbane. Many patients who undergo this surgery have stretched holes in their earlobes due to wearing tunnels/gauges or very heavy earrings. This may make the lobes appear ‘longer’ and the hole can become quite large.

Perhaps you have torn your ear lobe and would like it fixed?  Or, maybe you have a mole or lump that would you like removed from your ear or face, but are worried about scarring?

If you answered yes to any of the above, Dr Scott Horburgh can help. Read on below to learn about earlobe repair or click here to learn about no scar mole and lump removal using our highly specialised laser technique.

Here’s what to expect when underdoing Ear Lobe Repair…

Dr Horsburgh will discuss your concerns and your ideal outcome. He’ll provide you with a breakdown of what’s involved with the treatment and all associated fees to help you decide on how you want to proceed with the surgery. Your surgery will be conducted inside our medical treatment room so there is no need to attend a different day surgery.  The typical cost for ear lobe surgery is $490 per ear, including all charges for the appointment fees and anaesthesia.

Initial Appointment

Firstly, you’ll need to make a standard (15 minute) appointment with Dr Horsburgh so he can look at your ear lobes to assess your suitability to the surgery.

Call 3848 9299, or BOOK ONLINE. The typical out of pocket cost for this appointment (after Medicare rebate) is $41.

Procedure Day

Dr Horsburgh will administer the local anaesthetic to numb your earlobe area. He will then make some small incisions to the skin around the inside area of the hole in your ear on both the front and back of the lobe. Dr Horsburgh will carefully stitch the skin back together leaving no hole. He will apply some ointment and a dressing on the lobe. The procedure takes about 30 minutes per lobe.

Follow Up Appointment

Approximately 5-7 days after your surgery, you will need to return to the clinic so that Dr Horsburgh can remove your stitches and ensure your ear lobes are healing well.

There will be no fee for this appointment, and it typically takes only 15 minutes.

Why choose Dr Horsburgh?

Common Questions

Can you pin my ears back? No. Ear lobe reconstruction is typically something that would need to be performed by a Specialist.

Will it hurt? No. Ill administer a local anaesthetic so you’ll feel a small pinch from the needle but your lobe will go numb following this. You will be awake during the surgery but won’t feel any pain.

Can I drive home after the procedure?  Yes. You will not feel drowsy or any effects after the procedure that will stop you from safely driving.

Can I go back to work after the procedure? Yes. I would recommend that you take the afternoon off work if possible as you will have newly applied dressings but this is up to you.

How long does it take to heal and will there be permanent scarring?  You’ll have your stitches in for 5-7 weeks. After this the scarring will start to fade and be minimal over time.

Can I wear earrings again after surgery?

Yes, most patients can wear earrings again once the ear lobe has fully healed.

Can I shower or get my ears wet afterwards? It’s best not to get the area wet for the first 24 hours.
