Dr Eileen Rafter

Dr Rafter has an international and diverse background that shapes her approach to medicine. She was raised in Spain by her Irish father and Australian mother, and she speaks fluent Spanish. She went on to study medicine at University of Edinburgh, followed by GP training across England and Scotland.

Her early career included working in Honduras, South Africa, and Liverpool before she settled in Cairns in 1998. The region’s outdoor lifestyle, along with the arrival of her two girls, has kept her here ever since.

Dr Rafter joined her our team in 2006. She has a strong professional interest in Indigenous and women’s health, particularly antenatal care, where she provides are for high-risk mums to be. Her philosophy emphasizes a holistic and preventative approach, with a focus on educating patients so they can better understand and manage their health.
